Inauguration of Smriti Batika

The inauguration of Smriti Batika located at Old Sinamangal, Pepsicola was undertaken on the occasion of Martyr’s day on January 30, 2014. During the programme launch, participants representing various high-level government officials, Constituent Assembly members and environmentalists along with local community people took part in the plantation of trees to commemorate their loved ones. A joint inauguration of the site was done by planting a Kalki by Hon. MP Ganag Thapa of Nepali Congress, Hon. MP Rabindra Adhikari of CPN UML, Hon. MP Giri Raj Mani Pokhrel of UCPN Maoist and Chief Secretary of Nepal Government Mr. Leela Mani Poudyal in the memory of Marty’s of Nepal. YONSED gifted a tree each to Mr. Vijay Pd. Singh (UNDP Nepal), Dr. Tirtha B. Shrestha, Prof. Dr. Madan Koirala (Academician), Dr. Chudamani Joshi (Finish Embassy), Mr. Gopal Raj Sherchan (SGP/GEF) to mark their unceasing guidance and support to the youths. Altogether 32 trees saplings of various species were planted in the bank of Manohara river on the occasion.

Mr. Ghamshyam Khadka of Kantipur publications greeted the guests and presented program overview. Speaking at the event, Ms. Nima Giri of YONSED stressed the importance of tree plantation in the present context and shared her experience of feeling honour by planting a tree on her name. She highlighted the overview of the Smriti Brichhya project and made an appeal to the public for participation in this noble initiation by the youths. The program was concluded with the vote of thanks by Mr. Jeevan Thapa, Chairperson of the program and the president of YONSED.
